Change Maryland Action Fund Launches New Website To Fight Question 1

On the first day of early voting in Maryland, Change Maryland Action Fund launched a new website fighting Question 1. The website blasts Question 1 as a “blatant cash and power grab by the legislature” that would result in higher taxes, more wasteful government, and less accountability for career politicians.

The website includes a video from Governor Hogan, appealing to Maryland voters “to preserve the right of future governors – regardless of their political party – to hold the legislature accountable and to protect taxpayers”

Script:

For over a century, Maryland governors – Democratic and Republican alike – have held the authority to block wasteful spending from the legislature in the budget.

Under these rules, Maryland voters have opted to elect fiscally responsible governors to rein in excessive spending and stop tax hikes.

Question 1 would upend the Maryland constitution to give career politicians in the legislature unchecked power over the budget.

This is a blatant cash and power grab that would result in less accountability, higher taxes and more wasteful spending.

With our state facing an unprecedented fiscal crisis, the last thing we should do is make it easier to recklessly spend more of your tax dollars.

If you voted for me because you wanted a check on the legislature, then I urge you to vote against Question 1.

If you want more accountability for career politicians, not less, then I urge you to vote against Question 1.

If you want to preserve the right of future governors – regardless of their political party – to hold the legislature accountable and to protect taxpayers, then I urge you to vote against Question 1.

Thank you.
